Starting Vs Finishing

April 13th 2008………
 04:00 driving down the I-10 towards Tempe town lake…..
 
 Music Blaring, mind going a million miles an hour…
 Nervous sweat pouring from my body as I get closer to the starting line…….
 
 It is the Az IRONMAN race ….
 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, 26.2 mile run…….
 
 This is THE SECOND Ironman I was about to submerse myself into.
 
 I trained my ass off for the last 6 months. 30-40 hours a week just to get my body where it needs to be for race day.
 
 Got there 2 hours early which is standard for me to visualize my day… From water start to T-1 to Bike to T-2 to Run……
 
 It’s minutes before they shoot the cannon off!
 They start playing my favorite pre race song….
 LOSE YOURSELF by Eminem….
 
 Now I am crawling out of my skin!!!!
 
 2400 people in the race…. All in the water at the same time….
 Cannon goes off and it looks as if there is a piranha feeding frenzy going on in the water….
 
 Started awesome!
 Out of the water in 1:05….. 365th out of 2400 people….
 
 1st loop out of three on the bike is crazy fast at 26mph avg….
 
 Fighting the 25 mph winds and 97 degree heat…. It ended up being the 3rd highest dropout rate in ironman history!
 2nd loop on the bike my body started to shut down…..
 
 Didn’t realize I wasn’t fueling and how severe the wind and heat was I was in such a zone…..
 
 Long story short…….
 
 I started first stages of hyponatremia……. Started throwing up and couldn’t pull out of the tailspin!
 
 I started insanely great but could not keep that pace!
 
 Going out to hard, not focusing, not measuring twice and cutting once, just attacking left me having the worst ironman time I ever had….
 
 Planned for a 10:30 can in at a little over 14:00…..
